Plan to Profit is Tocal College's accredited online farm business management course, and the July 2026 intake starts on Monday 13 July. Over 12 weeks you build a complete financial plan for your own farm: not a case study, not someone else's numbers, yours. The course was designed by P2PAgri founder Mike Krause and is delivered by Mike and Tony Hudson, with five group Zoom workshops, five assessments and five private one-on-one coaching sessions.

An accredited farm business management course for NSW farmers

The course is part of Tocal College's AgSkilled program, is accredited (three units), and is fee free for eligible NSW applicants - the indicative fee of $3,100 (GST free) is covered by AgSkilled funding. It has been delivered to both young and experienced farmers and advisers, with strong feedback on content and how easy it is to learn.

The course text is Farming the Business, the GRDC farm business management manual written by Mike Krause and now in its fifth printing. You do not need advanced financial or computer skills to take part - the course starts from financial literacy fundamentals and builds up.

What you will learn

  • Farm financial literacy: how to read a cash flow, balance sheet and profit statement, and what they say about the health of your business
  • What is, and what is not, making money in your business, using gross margins for each enterprise
  • How to build cash flow budgets and monitor them through the season
  • The key ratios your bank looks at, and how to present bank-ready numbers
  • How to answer the what-if questions with scenario analysis: buying land, changing enterprise mix, good and poor seasons
  • How to identify and manage the big risks to your business

July 2026 course schedule

The intake opens on Monday 13 July 2026 and concludes on Monday 5 October 2026. Group Zoom workshops run for two to three hours, and each is paired with an assessment where you apply the session to your own farm business:

  • Monday 13 July - course opens
  • Tuesday 21 July - Zoom 1 with the lead trainer
  • Monday 3 August - Assessment 1 due; Tuesday 4 August - Zoom 2
  • Monday 10 August - Assessment 2 due; Tuesday 11 August - Zoom 3
  • Monday 31 August - Assessment 3 due; Tuesday 1 September - Zoom 4
  • Monday 14 September - Assessment 4 due; Tuesday 15 September - Zoom 5
  • Monday 28 September - Assessment 5 due
  • Monday 5 October - course concludes

Alongside the group sessions you get five private one-on-one Zoom sessions with your coach (Mike or Tony), arranged at times that suit you, where you work through your own figures confidentially.
